Sarah Statham of Simply by Arrangement “Autumn Gardens in a Bowl” 29th October 2026

Whilst some gardeners at this time of year might contemplate ‘putting the garden to bed’, here we celebrate the garden in every season.

I am delighted that I will be joined by Sarah Statham of Simply By Arrangement for a day in which the season, the garden and the last of the golden autumn light can be appreciated.

This class is for a just a few flower lovers. Those who know that to bring some of the garden indoors will bring a room to life. Sarah’s philosophy of stopping, for a few minutes each week, to make an arrangement and to slow down, to breathe in the scent of foliage and flowers and create a garden in a bowl might not necessarily transform your life, but it will provide small moments of calm. It might add a new dimension to your garden too if you would like to grow more flowers to cut.

After tea/coffee on arrival at 10am and a tour of the garden, guests will work with Sarah to create a stunning autumnal centrepiece, reflective of the garden, full of colour, movement and life, and worthy of a place in the very best corner of your home. Each guest will take away their arrangement which will be made in a bowl sourced by Sarah from one of the artisan potters whose work she loves. Sarah will teach guests how to design using garden-gathered materials and seasonal flowers using the ‘pin frog’ (kenzan) technique. The kenzans are also yours to take home.

If the light is right, Sarah will photograph your masterpiece and offer some suggestions on how you can do this at home.

We’ll end with a late and very well earned seasonal lunch made by Sasha.

Hopefully when you leave around 3pm, in the last of the daylight, you’ll not only have mastered some new floristry skills, you’ll have met a few new, likeminded people, and the month of November that’s still to come might feel lighter. You’ll definitely have big ideas for a feasting table in December.
